Paintings and Drawings — Freiburg

Gela Samsonidse’s solo exhibition “Malerei und Zeichnungen” (Paintings and Drawings) was presented at the Morat-Institut für Kunst und Kunstwissenschaft in Freiburg im Breisgau from 28 October 2007 to 3 January 2008. It showed large-format oil paintings and drawings exploring the relationship between figuration and abstraction: landscapes, figures, portraits and interiors combined with geometric structures and ornamental patterns. The exhibition also reflected his growing interest in portraiture, including self-portraits and works based on family photographs.

The accompanying catalogue, “Gela Samsonidse – Malerei und Zeichnung”, was published by modo Verlag with texts by Clemens Ottnad and Martin Engler (72 pages, 29 colour illustrations, ISBN 978-3-937014-79-1).
